Convention 2010
Friday, April 30 – Saturday, May 1 Come join us for the Diocesan convention 2010. Youth serve both as delegates and pages.
Pages help in the running of convention. We assist in the balloting, pass out materials, and general errands. This is a great experience as to how our church works and operates. We will have a lock-in Friday night and come back to convention Saturday morning for a breakfast with the bishops.
Schedule:
Friday, April 30th – arrive at 9:00 a.m. and check in with Rev. Wes Wubbenhorst, Youth Missioner. We will be assisting with set up and preparations.
Youth at Convention 2010
The youth of the Diocese have an active presence and participation at the annual Diocesan Convention. They serve both as delegates and pages. They initiate legislation and speak on all issues in the life of our church. We invite all interested youth in grades 9-12 to participate in this year’s convention.
Friday, April 30th h – Saturday May 1sth
Hunt Valley Marriott
We begin Friday morning at 9:00 a.m. and we shall be participating in the opening Eucharist. Once convention starts we assist the Diocesan staff in the operation and running of convention (passing out ballots, distribution of materials, counting of ballots, directing and informing members of convention of events and timing). Convention concludes Saturday afternoon and we help staff breakdown and pack equipment.
We also have a great time!!! We have a dedicated space at the hotel for snacks and relaxation, Saturday morning breakfast with the bishops, and time to meet and hang with the incredible youth of the Diocese.
Delegates: Each church in the diocese belongs to a region and each region can select two youth delegates to serve at convention as a delegate and an alternate. These people take full part in the convention and the delegate has both voice and vote. Delegates need to attend one of the pre-convention meetings (see schedule). The regions cover the cost of convention for the two representatives. Delegates need to be present for the entire convention.
Pages: All high school youth are invited to serve convention as pages. We assist convention with the daily operations and running of this event. We have voice on issues but no vote. We sit together and join the church in this annual event. The cost is $25.00 which covers a small percentage of the costs. We have four meals including the banquet. You will also receive an excuse signed by the bishop to account for your absence from school on Friday!!! Pages also receive a free convention t-shirt which you need to wear.
Accommodations: This year both delegates and pages will be having a lock-in Friday night. We will be staying at Sherwood Church and moving to and from convention from there.
